About Bookkeeping-OCR
Built by a business software veteran. Shipped with the help of AI. Made for the 31 million Americans who file a Schedule C and need something between a spreadsheet and QuickBooks.
The Problem We Solved
There is a gap in the bookkeeping software market that nobody talks about.
On one side: the spreadsheet. Flexible, free, and completely manual. You build it yourself, maintain it yourself, and pray at tax time it's right.
On the other side: QuickBooks, FreshBooks, Xero — powerful platforms built for businesses with employees, inventory, aging reports, and accountants who actually use them.
In the middle: roughly 30 million self-employed Americans — plumbers, freelancers, consultants, massage therapists, Realtors, lawn care operators — who outgrew the spreadsheet but never needed QuickBooks. They need something right-sized for the work they actually do.
That's what Bookkeeping-OCR is.
Who Built This
Robert Seely
Twenty-five years in enterprise IT. Half of them deploying medication management systems across hospitals for Becton Dickinson. Before that, leading a technology consulting firm. And before that, at Xerox — building a business system from scratch that reduced administrative headcount and saved millions of dollars.
Not a programmer. A person who understands how software gets built, what it takes to ship it, and — more importantly — what real business users actually need from it.
In October 2024, Robert left his senior implementation role and made a decision: use what he knew about AI, apply everything he'd learned over 25 years about how business software works, and build the product he'd never been able to find.
The Build — How a Non-Developer Shipped a Real Product
Bookkeeping-OCR was built entirely through AI-assisted development — specifically in collaboration with Claude by Anthropic. Robert didn't write a single line of code himself. He designed the product, made every architectural decision, defined every feature, drove every iteration, and tested everything. The AI wrote the code.
That's not a shortcut. It's a new model.
The product reflects 25 years of understanding what business software needs to actually do — translated into working software through a working relationship with AI. Every screen, every workflow, every edge case came from real-world experience with how businesses actually operate.
How it came together:
Started experimenting with AI — a broken spreadsheet was the first problem. It wouldn't be the last.
Left a senior implementation role at Becton Dickinson. Committed full-time to building the product.
Core application feature-complete: OCR scanning, expense tracking, revenue management, reporting, backup, and licensing system.
Version 1.0.0 shipped. Available for Mac and Windows. Live product with paying customers.
Invoice Module launching — free upgrade for all current license holders.

The Company
RS Project, LLC is a single-person software company based in Scottsville, New York — a small town outside Rochester. Founded in 2024 with one goal: build software that's exactly the right size for the people who need it.
There is no venture capital. No team of engineers. No investor roadmap pulling the product in directions customers don't need. Decisions are made by one person who uses the product, listens to customers, and ships updates when they're needed.
That's not a limitation. That's a feature.

Our Philosophy
Right-sized for the work you do.™
You outgrew the spreadsheet.
You never needed QuickBooks.
There's a middle that was built for you.
Right-Sized means the software fits the work — not the other way around. It means your data stays on your computer, where it belongs. It means you pay once and own it. It means when you reach out for support, you get a real answer.
The ~31 million Americans who file a Schedule C each year are not a niche. They are the backbone of the American economy — the plumber, the Realtor, the yoga instructor, the freelance designer, the consultant, the pressure washer. They run real businesses. They deserve real software that doesn't condescend to them with complexity they don't need or charge them a subscription for features they'll never use.
That's the product. That's the mission. That's Bookkeeping-OCR.
